The Voidling’s Gambit

Mini-Dungeon One Shot for 4–6 Characters of Levels 9–11

A rebellious voidling once served the mighty void dragon Malinda — until it betrayed her. The voidling devised a cunning plan, trapping Malinda in an extra-dimensional time-stasis chamber moments before her death. When time resumed, the dragon’s demise would be certain, and the voidling would survive the explosion triggered by her death.

However, the plan went awry. The chamber unexpectedly manifested on the Material Plane, sealed within a sphinx’s temple cave complex. Now, the sphinx guards the chamber, demanding one of its three riddles be answered aloud before unlocking it — refusing any telepathic responses.

Desperate, the voidling summoned the Void itself to these caves, hoping the chaos would lure nearby villagers inside — weak minds it could easily dominate. Unfortunately for the voidling, it did not anticipate adventurers.
