Idol of Avarice and the Missing Scout
Idol of Avarice is a 5E adventure for 4–5 characters of level 5. Farryn was a trusted scout who kept the roads safe. Now she ambushes the travelers she once protected. Her commanding officer asks the party to discover why she has turned to crime.
The answer waits inside a mountain cavern. An ancient idol holds the essence of a greed demon, and its curse drives Farryn to gather wealth for it. To help her, the heroes must investigate the source of her strange behavior and confront its power.
Follow the Clues Through the Mists
Swirling mists hide the spirits of the idol’s former followers. Broken stone, unstable ground, and a narrow bridge make the cavern dangerous to cross. Meanwhile, Farryn watches from cover, ready to attack anyone who approaches.
Careful observation offers another way forward. The spirits’ behavior and traces of the ruined shrine give the party clues to the magic at work. These discoveries may help the heroes reach the idol and its tempting hoard. Disturbing that treasure can draw a hostile response.
A Mountain Mystery for Your Campaign
Use Idol of Avarice when the party travels through a mountain region or meets a worried military officer. The missing scout gives the adventure a clear personal objective. Rescuing her requires the heroes to look beyond the first ambush and question what is controlling her.
Five keyed locations carry the group from the spirit mists to the cursed idol. The adventure supports investigation, combat, and an attempt to save the scout. If Farryn survives and the curse breaks, she can return to her commander and seek redemption.
