5th Edition Mini-Dungeon for four to five characters of levels 7-8
Starme, a “teenage” storm giant, had his young brass dragon mount Copallzi taken as bail after losing a brawl. Now he needs the fine (which could be a magic item or a pile of gold) delivered and Copallzi recovered, but can’t go himself as he hasn’t told his parents.
The adventurers may get the dragon released using their wiles instead of money, but engaging in wholesale slaughter leads to them becoming targets for bounty hunters.
If set in Aventyr, Starme has purchased an Obor Permit of Transit to get the party to Luod the bailiff’s office and hand over the money using good manners, plus a Permit of Persuasion in case it wishes to use the “non-money” option. But this permit does not allow for “death or too-great destruction of the holder’s property, even in self-protection” (i.e. losses of greater value than the funds can replace).
However, the guards only speak Abyssal or Aquan, can’t read, and are “trigger happy”, while Luod is no pushover even for experienced adventurers; the task is going to be a difficult one, not helped by the fact that at the first sign of failure or weakness, Luod the bailiff takes matters into her own hands, “fining” the characters for some perceived transgression and insisting they pay up or face the consequences!
Mini-Dungeons are short, setting-agnostic adventures for 5th Edition which can be easily inserted anywhere in your campaign.
