4–6 Characters • Levels 3–5
Underworld • Urban
This product is part of the Mini-Dungeons series — a collection of short, ready-to-run tabletop RPG adventures.
A fortress prepares to shut itself away from the world.
At the gates of Stoneholme, dweorg engineers ready ancient defenses while stone guardians stir to life. Outside, factions clash—envoys, refugees, and opportunists all demand entry as tensions spiral toward violence.
Then the tunnels erupt. Venomspawn flood from the depths, surging toward the gates in relentless waves. As Stoneholme moves to seal itself for a century, those left outside must choose: stand together against the swarm… or force their way through the city’s deadly defenses before the gates close forever.
Adventure Description
Designed as a high-tension encounter within Rise of the Drow: After the Fall, Mini-Dungeon #332: Stoneholme’s Sealed Gates presents a volatile 5E city gate encounter as a fortified dweorg city prepares to isolate itself from the Underworld.
Upon arrival, the party finds the gates nearly sealed and guarded by a hardened Stoneholme force under strict orders to deny entry. Around them, multiple factions collide—Embla dwarves seeking alliance, Klavekian emissaries demanding access, and drow refugees fleeing the fall of Holoth. Each group carries its own agenda, distrust, and breaking point.
Characters may attempt to mediate this fragile situation, navigating political tension, cultural hostility, and competing demands. Every effort to negotiate risks escalating the crowd, pushing it toward disorder, desperation, or outright violence.
The situation fractures when Venomspawn begin arriving in waves, attacking all gathered forces. As the threat intensifies, Stoneholme activates its defenses—ancestral guardians stir, arbalists fire from above, and the gate mechanism begins its final closure.
Caught between the swarm and the city’s defenses, the characters must act quickly—rally allies, defend civilians, or push through the trap-filled Gauntlet before the gates seal completely.
Ultimately, the outcome reshapes the balance of power across the Underworld. Stoneholme may seal itself away, join the Coalition, or determine the fate of the drow refugees—each decision carries lasting political consequences.
