A sinkhole has opened up and a path from the Underworld revealed. Few realized it was there until several attacks began to take their toll on local hunters and loggers.
Mayor Igor Leonid asks the party to investigate the path, find out what is within, and see if it might be a place to deal with the attackers.

Never have liked the idea of “underdark” at level 1/new PCs cause of the inherent danger, even for the idea of investigating a sinkhole or somesuch. Felt would have been better being like level 3-8/9 for the range.
