Mini-Dungeon #327: Witch of the Frozen Cliff
A Mini-Dungeon for D&D 5E 2024 (Levels 6–8)
This 5e 2024 witch adventure suits groups looking for a short but memorable journey.
Mini-Dungeon #327: Witch of the Frozen Cliff is a 5e 2024 witch adventure set high above the frozen forests of the Vikmordere Valley, where a narrow cave mouth opens in the face of an icy granite cliff.
Long ago, the Umzear clan exiled a shaman named Verga after uncovering her experiments with forbidden rites of the Ancestor Peoples. She vanished into the wilderness, and over time her name faded into uneasy legend.
Recently, a violent pulse of arcane energy tore through the valley.
Verga breached the boundaries between planes, and although she sealed the rift, something answered her call. Alien winds howled through her lair as writhing veins, unblinking eyes, and gibbering mouths surged into existence. As the magic took hold, her body twisted into a malformed conduit for forces beyond the world. In turn, the disturbance drew the attention of NITNAM, a nightmarish leviathan now pressing toward the mortal realm.
With Umzear scouts missing and divinations pointing north, the party is hired in the frontier town of Rybalka. From there, they must cross into Vikmordere territory, scale the frozen cliff, and investigate the cave before the valley suffers irreversible harm.
Adventure Overview
Witch of the Frozen Cliff is a focused arctic dungeon crawl for 4–6 characters of levels 6–8, blending vertical exploration, environmental danger, hidden threats, and escalating instability. As a 5e 2024 witch adventure, it highlights the consequences of forbidden magic and the cost of unfinished rituals.
Inside the cliffside cavern complex, every chamber reflects magical corruption. Careful observation reveals alternate routes, concealed dangers, and fragments of Verga’s research, while reckless movement invites ambush and collapse.
This Mini-Dungeon includes:
-
A hazardous frozen cliff ascent with meaningful risk
-
Concealed dungeon paths that reward investigation and caution
-
Predators disguised as natural cave formations
-
A corrupted witch’s lair filled with trapped lore and unstable magic
-
A ritual chamber where planar forces strain against containment
-
A timed cavern collapse that turns escape into a climactic challenge
-
Opportunities to rescue prisoners and shape regional outcomes
Together, these elements support a single extended session that builds tension steadily and ends in a chaotic, memorable finale.
5e 2024 Witch Adventure Themes
This 5e 2024 witch adventure emphasizes investigation, pressure, and consequence. Grimoires, imprisoned creatures, and survivors marked by incomplete metamorphosis reveal Verga’s transformation step by step. As each discovery surfaces, urgency increases and the environment itself begins to fail.
Once the ritual chamber is disturbed, instability spreads throughout the cavern complex. The partial emergence of NITNAM then triggers a violent collapse, forcing the party to fight, rescue survivors, and flee as the dungeon tears itself apart.
Campaign Integration
This Mini-Dungeon is set in Rybalka, the Vikmordere Valley, and Umzear lands. At the same time, it relocates easily to any cold, mountainous, or remote frontier.
It fits naturally as:
-
A response to unexplained magical disturbances
-
A dangerous reconnaissance mission with incomplete information
-
A regional crisis with lingering political and spiritual consequences
-
The opening chapter of a broader planar threat

This was a nice, quick aside from our general campaign. The map was thoughtfully laid out, and the descriptions were useful to drive understanding with very little preparation on the part of the GM. The cover picture was just creepy enough to get that cringe factor started.
