Kindly Beasts in the Woods of Harpstring

Kindly Beasts is a 5E adventure for 4–5 characters of levels 5–6. Harpstring’s loggers speak warmly of a strange creature in the woods. They also tell of a hairy giant that attacked their friends. The town hires the party to end the killings.

The journey leads into a rocky pass, where the accounts of survivors deserve careful attention. A friendly greeting hides a threat, while the feared giant has a story of its own. The heroes must investigate before choosing where to direct their weapons.

Arrive by Day—or Face the Night

Tracking determines whether the party reaches the pass by day or after dark. The timing changes the creatures’ positions and the beasts waiting to attack. Each approach presents different dangers, giving the heroes a reason to read the terrain before pressing ahead.

Missing hunters are still alive, but rescuing them may become urgent once combat starts. Meanwhile, the party must judge an unexpected welcome and discover what drives the forest’s violence. The adventure rewards investigation with options that can change the outcome of the encounter.

A Forest Mystery for Your Campaign

Place Kindly Beasts along a woodland journey or introduce it during a stop at a logging settlement. The worried townsfolk offer supplies and a modest reward. Their incomplete account gives the group a reason to follow tracks and ask questions of its own.

Five keyed locations make use of cliffs, a narrow pass, and hiding places among the rocks. Autumn leaves conceal evidence of earlier victims. Observant characters can uncover the deception and rescue the hunters. Looking beyond the town’s first account may also reveal a chance to help a creature the loggers fear.
