A titanic wound splits the earth, its walls thick with webways stretching thousands of feet into darkness.

Since the fall of Holoth, the spiders of the Silken Abyss no longer answer to the drow. They heed only Naraneus the Spider Goddess. Every strand trembles with hunger.

Deep below, twin blades known as The Abyssal Fangs glow beside the husk of an ancient arachnid horror. To claim them, characters must descend through a living colony where even a single misstep can awaken The Hungry Swarm.

Adventure Description

Designed as a side quest for Rise of the Drow: After the Fall, Mini-Dungeon #331: Descent into the Silken Abyss sends characters into a 6,500-foot vertical spider colony beneath the Underworld.

At first, the descent is a test of restraint. Web-choked stone shelves and crevices offer a precarious path downward. Characters must manage rope, supplies, and morale while avoiding disturbances that alert the colony.

Central to the adventure is the Vibration mechanic, a dynamic threat tracker that escalates danger based on how much noise and disruption the party creates. Combat rounds, hurried climbing, harvesting silk, and reckless movement all increase Vibration Points. As tension builds, the colony reacts.

Meanwhile, Veztigahl, a drow spider-keeper slipping into madness, prepares a desperate ritual to appease Naraneus. He seeks to use the Abyssal Fangs in sacrifice, believing obedience will restore the broken drow-arachnid bond.

Eventually, if Vibration reaches critical levels, the abyss answers. The Hungry Swarm rises in a cascading pursuit, forcing a desperate vertical escape while spiders flood the webways.

Ultimately, the outcome reshapes relations between spiders and drow across the Underworld. Theft of the Abyssal Fangs hardens the colony into open hostility. Leaving them strengthens Naraneus’ grip. Veztigahl may fall, convert, or betray the party depending on their choices.
