Weird Wednesday (Lands of Ludolog): Double Death

Effect This haunt is triggered whenever a creature is killed by an instadeath effect in one of the miniworlds in Ludolog, the 2-Bit Dimension. The next time the creature passes over or above the instadeath hazard that last killed them, they must make a DC 24 Will save or be compelled by the double death haunt to fling themselves at it (experiencing a 2nd instadeath).

double death hauntThe double death haunt activates once per instadeath hazard within a single miniworld. For instance, once a creature has experienced a lava pit’s double death haunt, they are immune to double death haunts from lava pits in that miniworld for 24 hours.

Destruction Double death haunts can only be defeated through avoidance; at the end of a miniworld, a creature receives bonus experience points from the double death haunt by receiving experience points for retaining lives [see Ludolog, the 2-Bit Dimension-MM].

Adventure Hook The miniworlds of Ludolog are strange places indeed, and the double death haunt is a great example of the kind of adventuring to be done there. Play should be fast, quick, and encourage risk-taking—just like a video game. The double death haunt is a woe that many video gamers know, and PCs will come to fear it quick enough when their lives start to deplete. If this extra Will save is proving to be a hindrance to the game, however, GMs should restrict how often double death takes effect.
