Klopis Shell
Aura strong abjuration; CL 15th
Slot shoulders; Price 56,800 gp; Weight 7 lbs.
DESCRIPTION
Two large pink orbs are embedded into these rust stained pauldrons. When touched the shoulder guards crackle with energy.
When the wearer of a klopis shell kills a creature, the dying creature may be imprinted on the magic item. As a standard action the wearer of a klopis shell can activate an orb from the magic item to use a special attack or spell-like ability possessed by an imprinted creature (determined randomly when the imprint is made). Any special attack or spell-like ability accessed this way can only be used a number of times per day equal to the original creature’s uses or 5 times per day (whichever is fewer).
Imprinting a dying creature on the klopis shell requires 10 minutes per CR and the wearer must not be interrupted during the process. At least 55% of the creature’s corpse must be intact to be imprinted and any attempts to begin the process after a creature has been slain for one hour or more automatically fail. Attempts to imprint a creature that has no special attacks or spell-like abilities automatically fail and render the klopis shell unable to imprint creatures for two weeks.
A creature must be of a CR equal to or less than the HD of the wearer of the klopis shell +2 in order to be imprinted, and a klopis shell cannot imprint more than one creature per week. A klopis shell can store one special attack or spell-like ability for every 4 HD of the most recent wearer. When a klopis shell has its maximum number of imprints and a creature is imprinted, one of its existing imprints disappears (determined randomly).

HISTORY
With a successful Knowledge (arcana) or Knowledge (engineering) check, bits of lore relating to the klopis shell are revealed to the PCs; how much is determined by the following DCs:
DC 20     The orbs the strange gaff were first investigated because of the creature’s unique abilities to redirect magic in order to develop the first prototypes of the klopis shell.
DC 25 Â Â Â Â After a horrifying accident in the lab, researchers discovered that the orbs of a klopis shell absorb dead flesh when they make contact with a corpse.
DC 30     Klopis shells became popular for a while, used to efficiently clean the remains of dead creatures—until someone discovered that the orbs absorbed the powers of the bodies they consumed.
