Curse of the Ayaxa CR 8
XP 4,800
CE haunt (30 ft. by 30 ft. dune)
Caster Level 6th
Notice Perception DC 18 (to hear the death throes of thousands of locust)
hp 12; Trigger proximity; Reset 1 day
Effect When this haunt is triggered, the spirits of dozens of giant locusts swarm the haunt’s area; creatures within the haunt’s area must make a DC 14 Will save or be panicked for 1d4+1 rounds. The curse of the Ayaxa doesn’t deal any damage or inflict any other harm unless a creature attempts to use channel energy. When a creature uses channel energy against the haunt, they must make a DC 14 Fortitude save or transform into a freakish half-locust monstrosity. On a failure the creature’s body morphs, their legs kink backwards as their face becomes a twisted melange of their normal features, muscles and bones changing into a horrific hybridization. A creature so transformed gains a +4 racial bonus to Strength, a +2 racial bonus to Dexterity, a -15 foot penalty to base land speed (to a minimum of 5 feet), a -2 penalty to Constitution, and a -4 penalty to Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Restoring a half-locust creature back to their original form requires a lesser restoration or restoration spell.
Destruction The curse of the Ayaxa is a persistent effect generated from a temple lost in the Disputed Territories; the haunt is only destroyed when the supernatural effects there have been restored or completely destroyed.
